Leaders responsible for ASEAN TNE delivery and Quality Assurance across all sectors including School, ELT, TVET and Higher Education.
Australia has been delivering educational programs in South East Asia since the 1980s initially in pre-departure English under the Australian Aid funded higher education scholarship program. Australian linked high quality ELT centres operate today in many ASEAN capital cities and in an increasing number of secondary cities.
A network of Australian International Schools now operates in Jakarta, Denpasar, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and in Vietnam utilising Australian State curriculum and preparing students for Australian matriculation exams. They form an important pathway for study in Australian higher education institutions.
Australian TVET operations have been less visible in ASEAN however exceptions include William Angliss Institute of TAFE from Melbourne who have played a key role in developing Tourism and Hospitality programs for ASEAN and have a campus in Singapore and operations in Vietnam. In the private TVET sector SITE International have a major presence in the Philippines and Myanmar servicing the regional training needs of the oil and gas sector. Listed company Academies Australasia has a campus in Singapore offering pathway programs for Study in Australia.
Australian University branch campuses now operate in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Miri, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang and Hanoi. They are responsible for their own curriculum, qualification awarded and quality assurance. The latter responsibility may be shared with local National Qualifications Agencies. Split Masters programs are a recent development which is being trialed in Indonesia.
ASEAN countries are increasing their own TNE operations with Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia particularly focused on becoming regional education hubs. Thailand and Cambodia are keen to attract regional university and TVET operations and Indonesia is beginning to open the TNE conversation.
